At least 150 killed in multiple bombings in Syria

At least 150 people were killed and about 200 wounded on Monday in multiple bombing incidents along Syria’s Mediterranean coast.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks in two government-held cities of Jableh and Tartous, which host Russian military bases.

At least seven blasts were reported – three of which went off in Jableh in the Latakia province, while four exploded in Tartous.

Mohamad Muthlej narrowly escaped death.

He told Reuters news agency that: “I got here and once I parked the explosion happened. I was standing here. There was a car behind me that got burnt. I saw martyrs on the ground. I couldn’t get my car out or anything. Thank God after all. But this is not destiny, these are terrorist acts.”

Another witness said several people were attending to victims of an earlier bombing when a suicide bomber blew herself up in a hospital nearby.

In a related development, the Syrian foreign ministry has accused Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar of taking a hostile approach to the “advances made by the Syrian Arab Army’s war against terrorism.”

The three Arab countries are part of the international coalition fighting against Islamic State militants, but are also supporting rebel groups battling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
